True, but those companies also went under because fashion was changing and they were not. You also apparently underestimate the power of Creative Labs to screw things up.
You mean like Moog, Arp, Sequential, Oberheim, etc? For instance, if someone told me they’d trade me a Fizmo rack (the rare and mythical!) for my 002 rack, I’d probably say no. My current synths are all pretty modern, and although I’d love to have access to the Ensoniq sound again, I would not want it if I had to lose something. I guess I’m a sort of “love the one you’re with” guy. The Fizmo is probably the Ensoniq keyboard for me, but I’m not into having to use a software editor to get at all the functions and I feel the current pricing on them is way out of line and I’m out of space anyway. The editing felt awkward, even though it once seemed second nature to me. The synthesis sounded a bit lame without the effects. The keyboard still felt (man they had great quality keys) but the aftertouch (the man reason I bought it) was close to unusable. and frankly there wasn’t a lot of magic there. I had owned one for a decade and I decided it was time to rekindle that magic. To people who rely on that exact sound, they’ll never be happy but a lot of people can’t have every synth they’d like and a close emulation is good enough. I think it could be done, and maybe not perfectly, but if they got things as close as they got the CMI V, I’d be happy. The sample engine of the Mirage, ASR, digital oscillators from the SQ-80, TS, Fizmo, filters from the Mirage, SQ, DP effects, etc. But, you may be right.My idea/hope is that someone would do a sort of anthology emulation, which let you choose modules from all the Ensoniq greats.
I think the demand could be there for Arturia to do an SQ-80 considering the interest for SQ8L developer to continue development after he ditched the idea.
